Slack agent
Setting up a client end to end
The full order of work to get a customer using the agent in Slack, split between HSAI and the customer administrator.
Setting up a client end to end
Setup is split on purpose. HSAI sets the commercial frame; the customer's own administrator connects Slack and decides who gets access. Do the steps in this order.
Before you start
- The client exists and has at least one invited customer user who will be their administrator.
- Slack is enabled in the environment (see Environments and Slack apps).
- You have the Admin role. The panel below is not shown to consultants.
HSAI steps: the HSAI Agent tab
Open the client in the Command Centre and go to the HSAI Agent tab. The Set up agent access panel lists five steps and shows how many are done.
- Seats & customer administrator. Record the seat agreement: seat limit, start and end, an agreement reference, and choose the customer administrator. This creates no credit or charge. See Seats, licences and administrators.
- Pricing. Save a Selling margin, then enable Agent terms for a window. Calls are refused without current terms. See Pricing, credit and limits.
- HSAI-funded credit. Set the ceiling for a period, approve credit within it and apply it to the customer's balance.
- Customer allocation. Normally the customer does this. You can Allocate on the customer's behalf only when they ask.
- Paid billing. Only if the customer pays HSAI directly. Usage reports also live here.
Customer steps: Slack & agent access
Tell the customer administrator to open Activate → Settings → Slack & agent access (/portal/activate/settings/assistant). They:
- Add the app to Slack (anyone with install rights can, from
/slack/install), then select Connect Slack workspace and confirm the verified workspace. For an org-wide Grid install they pick one workspace. - Select Turn on Slack for the organisation.
- Assign licences, starting with themselves.
- Give people credit, and optionally set spending limits.
Client-facing steps are in the Help Centre under the Slack section.
Each user links
Each licensed person messages HockeyStick in Slack's Messages tab, selects Connect your HockeyStick account, approves the link page in the browser, signs in, and presses Confirm account link back in Slack.
Check it works
- The administrator sees the workspace as Connected and their own licence as active.
- A licensed user types Help and gets a list of examples. Help is free, so it proves linking and licence but not credit.
- Ask a read, such as "Tell me my top 10 partners". A reply proves credit and terms.
